hospiguide.org takes the hospital quality data that CMS publishes and makes it readable. We explain what each measure means, which direction is better, and how a hospital compares with the national median. We do not rate hospitals ourselves.
What we do
- Publish the CMS Care Compare record for 5,419 Medicare-certified U.S. hospital — star rating, mortality, safety, infections, readmissions, patient survey results and spending.
- Translate measure codes into plain English. CMS publishes
MORT_30_AMI = 8.3; we publish "heart attack death rate, 8.3%, better than the national median of 11.8%". - State which direction is better. It is not obvious that a lower infection ratio is good while a higher survey score is good, and showing a number without that context is worse than useless.
- Explain every gap. When CMS withholds a result, we show the reason from its footnote rather than an empty cell.
- Link you to Medicare.gov Care Compare on every page so you can verify anything you read here against the official source.
What we do not do
- We do not rank hospitals or publish ratings of our own. There is no "HospiGuide score", no "best hospitals" list, and no composite we invented. Every number on this site is CMS's.
- We do not accept payment for placement. No hospital can pay to appear, to rank higher, to be featured, or to have a measure removed. Listings are ordered by CMS star rating and name, nothing else.
- We do not publish user reviews or star ratings from visitors. Hospital choice is too consequential to be driven by a handful of anonymous comments, and a review section would compete with the CMS data we exist to explain.
- We do not connect you to hospitals. No contact forms, no appointment requests, no lead generation. We show the phone number CMS publishes; what you do with it is up to you.
- We do not collect health information. We never ask for your diagnosis, your doctor's name, your insurance details or your Medicare number.
- We do not give medical advice. We explain what the data says. Whether to seek care, where to have a procedure, and what treatment you need are decisions for you and a clinician who knows your situation.
Who writes this
Content is produced by the hospiguide.org editorial team. We are not doctors and we claim no clinical expertise. Our role is narrower and, we think, more useful: to present what CMS publishes accurately, explain how to read it, and cite our sources so you can check us.
We do not invent author personas or medical credentials. When a page says "hospiguide.org Editorial Team", that is exactly who wrote it — there is no fictional physician reviewer attached to lend borrowed authority.
Where the data comes from
Hospital records come from CMS Care Compare, a set of public-domain U.S. federal datasets. The data on this site was released by CMS on August 13, 2026. We reproduce the values without modification.
Appearing in this directory means a hospital is certified by Medicare. That is not a quality rating and not an endorsement — not by CMS, and not by us.
See the full list of datasets for refresh frequency and known limitations, or read our methodology for how we calculate the national comparisons.
We are not the government
hospiguide.org is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Medicare, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or any government agency.

How we are funded
This site is supported by display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over which hospitals appear, how they are ordered, or which measures we show. No hospital pays us for placement.
Ads are kept away from hospital contact details deliberately, so that no listing can be mistaken for a paid referral. On hospital profile pages, advertising appears only in the sidebar, never adjacent to an address or phone number.
Found a mistake?
CMS data contains errors, and so do we. If something here is wrong, tell us — we publish corrections.
For errors in the underlying CMS record — a wrong address, a missing phone number, a measure the hospital believes is miscalculated — the hospital must work through CMS to correct it. We cannot change a federal record on anyone's behalf, and we will not remove an accurate but unflattering measure on request.
